Welcome to Sacred Heart Equine Rescue's new website! We are very excited to be available on the internet to spread the word and educate the public regarding horse abuse, neglect, abandonment and slaughter. We are also happy to be a source of resources for any and all who need it.
The director, Jennifer McCollum, grew up on horses and knows what gentle and sensitive creatures they are. After years of wanting to take in every abandoned, abused and starved animal she saw (especially horses) she decided it was time to do something about it.
One day in February a man came to our home with a very thin, old Thorough bred and asked if we would be interested in taking him as another person brought the gelding to him in this condition and he didn't have the time or knowledge to care for or "fix" the old guy. And so it started.....
We are a family run non-profit rescue, with help from the occasional volunteer. Ours is a loving, home atmosphere where each horse is unique and loved. We pride ourselves on our mission to bond with and know each horse we take in and to not only save their lives, improve their health, but also train them to be their best and to trust humans. For many of these majestic creatures trust of man is very difficult, but it is NEVER impossible. We do it everyday on our desert safe haven.
